Rankings and Distinctions

Thanks to the efforts of the whole university community, the UAH occupies leading positions in various rankings and has received recognition for research and teaching efforts of its staff. . With respect to the environment, this recognition is perhaps most evident in the Greenmetric International ranking, according to which the UAH is Spain’s most “sustainable” university. This is the only ranking of its kind which analyzes the environmental policies of higher education institutions worldwide.

• Spain’s top university for environmental sustainability. International Green Metric Index which assesses the sustainability policies of universities. Years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
• The University of Alcalá is the 3rd most sustainable university in the world according to Coolmyplanet, a non-profit organization headquartered in San Francisco that promotes environmental awareness and the reduction of climate impact. UAH has also obtained the Certificate of Environmental Sustainability, which recognizes 50 universities in the world for implementing policies during 2014 to improve environmental conditions inside and outside of campus.
• Campus of International Excellence in Smart Energy: Bioenergy & Smart Cities
• Excellence Award from the International Water Association (Prize for Excellence in Sustainable Water Management) for the ‘Consolider Tragua’ Project for purified urban waste water reuse
• Award for Best geothermal installation in the Madrid region’s industry and services sector
• 3M Innovation Award, for 2011 research project, ¨Urban Pollution Prediction System, based on neuronal information technology models
• Degree in Environmental Sciences among the most popular in Spain, according to the El Mundo newspaper’s ranking of the 50 Best Degrees
• Public ‘Fotolinera’ (Juan Carlos I Royal Botanical Garden), finalist in ‘ Muy Interesante’ Innovation Prize 2012 in Environment category
